FDA Notices Show Agency Is All In On Tobacco Regulation
By Paul Cicelski (May 21, 2018, 2:11 PM EDT) -- There has been a recent flurry of activity by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in connection with its comprehensive new regulatory plan aimed at significantly reducing tobacco-related disease and death. As part of this ongoing effort, the FDA issued three advanced notices of proposed rulemaking, or ANPRMs, in March 2018, seeking input on the role of tobacco, nicotine, flavors in tobacco products and premium cigars.
According to a statement by FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, one of the agency's major priorities underpinning the release of the ANPRMs "is to further explore how best to protect public health in the evolving tobacco marketplace."...
