AlaskaCare Illegally Excludes Trans Workers, Librarian Says

Law360 (June 5, 2018, 7:09 PM EDT) -- A transgender librarian with the Alaska State Legislature sued the state on Tuesday, alleging it violates federal discrimination laws by refusing to pay for gender reassignment surgery through state-run health plan AlaskaCare.

Jennifer Fletcher claimed the state’s policy of not providing health care coverage for gender reassignment surgery discriminates against transgender workers in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because the state covers medically necessary surgeries for cisgender workers.
