NJ Verizon Workers Lose Unemployment Appeal

Law360, New York (June 5, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A New Jersey appeals court has rejected an effort by former Verizon Communications Inc. employees to overturn a state Department of Labor decision that denied them unemployment benefits after they opted to take a voluntary severance package.

The Superior Court of New Jersey's Appellate Division on Friday affirmed the state Department of Labor's board of review decision, ruling that the employees were not entitled to receive unemployment compensation benefits.
