GCs Tackle Law Firm Culture In Diversity Push

By Michele Gorman (June 18, 2018, 10:02 PM EDT) -- When law firms have submitted teams that lack diversity for new BASF Corp. cases, general counsel Matt Lepore has rejected their offers or declined to extend a meeting invitation.

When that happens, he says, he has told them "very specifically, it's because you did not propose a diverse team."

Lepore also encourages his outside counsel to assign their diverse junior attorneys to significant matters. He asks relationship partners to make sure members of their team are doing substantive work like taking depositions or logging time in court.
