EPA Says No Need For CWA Hazardous Spill Regulations

Law360 (June 21, 2018, 8:05 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday that it does not intend to propose Clean Water Act regulations meant to prevent spills of hazardous substances because doing so is unnecessary and would duplicate already existing requirements, drawing fire from environmental groups.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt signed the proposal this week to institute no requirements under the portion of the CWA that calls for regulations aimed at avoiding spills of hazardous substances from industrial facilities  and containing those kinds of spills when they occur, the agency said....
