Facebook Policy Spurs Dash To Defend Trademarks

Law360, New York (June 11, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The news that Facebook will let users craft their own Web addresses for their profiles has spurred lawyers to urge clients to enroll trademarks with the site before social networkers can grab companies' brand names for their own URLs.

Law firms on Thursday sent out a flurry of client advisories with subjects such as Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll LLP's “Alert: Will Your Trademark Be on Facebook?” and Mayer Brown LLP's “Facebook Policy Update Requires Action to Protect Trademarks.”
