Unilever Hit With 'I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!' Suit

Law360, New York (June 11, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- I can't believe it's not healthy, one consumer said in a proposed class action filed over alleged false health claims in the marketing of Unilever U.S. Inc.'s well-known “I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!” spread.

Unilever misled consumers with a marketing campaign that features an “Ozzie and Harriet”-style family trumpeting the virtues of the butter substitute over traditional butter, a California consumer said in a complaint filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
