Axed Workers Are Owed Vacation Pay: Mass. Court

Law360, New York (June 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The highest court in Massachusetts has affirmed that employers owe terminated workers for unused vacation, siding with the state attorney general in a challenge brought by Electronic Data Systems Corp.

On Thursday, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court affirmed a Superior Court ruling in favor of Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley. The attorney general had issued a citation to EDS for laying off a 21-year company veteran without compensating him for his unused vacation time, which the company then appealed.
