Georgia-Pacific Affiliate's Ch. 11 Slammed As 'Sham'

By Ryan Boysen (August 16, 2018, 8:59 PM EDT) -- Georgia-Pacific affiliate Bestwall LLC's bankruptcy is a "sham" and a "farce" designed to wall off its parent company from exposure to asbestos claims, a committee of asbestos claimants said Wednesday in seeking to get the case dismissed.

Bestwall, which formerly manufactured several asbestos-containing compounds, filed for bankruptcy in North Carolina last year, intending to set up a trust to handle the billions in legal claims by plaintiffs who say they contracted cancer after being exposed to Bestwall's products.

In Wednesday's motion to dismiss Bestwall's Chapter 11 case, however, the official committee of asbestos claimants said the whole episode has been nothing...
