$15M Verdict Against Distributors In Case Over On-Demand Book Printing

Law360, New York (March 5, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- A company that invented an on-demand book printing method has won a $15 million judgment against some of the largest wholesale book distributors in the U.S.

A federal jury in Missouri ordered the nation's leading provider of on-demand book printing to pay $15 million for patent infringement to On Demand Machine Corp.

Lightning Source Inc. of La Vergne, Tenn.; its parent company, Ingram Industries, of Nashville, Tenn.; and Seattle-based Amazon.com had argued the patent wasn't valid and there was no infringement. They said they would appeal...
