US Won't Bring FCPA Case Against British Co. Amid UK Probe

By Jody Godoy (August 22, 2018, 6:03 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has declined to bring Foreign Corrupt Practices Act charges against British seismic testing company Guralp Systems Ltd. in part because the company has said it will accept responsibility in a parallel U.K. case, according to a letter made public on Tuesday.

The DOJ said in a declination letter dated Monday that it has evidence that Guralp may have committed money laundering and bribed Korean seismologist Heon-Cheol Chi, but that it won't bring charges because the company meets the criteria under its FCPA corporate enforcement policy.
