8 State AGs Target FedEx Drivers Classification

Law360, New York (June 25, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Attorneys general from eight states put FedEx Ground on alert on Thursday regarding the company's contentious practice of classifying its drivers as independent contractors, claiming the shipping giant could be depriving the states of tax revenue and denying workers their rights.

Led by Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock and Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, the state attorneys general voiced their concern that the FedEx Corp. subsidiary may be improperly treating its drivers as independent contractors, rather than employees.
