Lawsuit Over High-Tech Braces Settled With $20M Deal

Law360 (September 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Orthodontic rivals battling over patents for high-tech braces have straightened out their differences with a global settlement, in which plaintiff Align Technology Inc. agreed to buy the defendant’s intellectual property and force it out of the market.

Align Technology, which developed the popular Invisalign brand of clear, removable braces, announced Thursday it would pay OrthoClear Holdings Inc. $20 million to transfer its patent portfolio and stay out of the braces business for five years.
