EPA Greenlights Stricter Auto Emissions Limits In Calif.

Law360, New York (June 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a reversal of Bush administration policy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has granted California's waiver request to set its own, more stringent limits on greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.

The EPA said Tuesday that there was a long-standing history of granting waivers to California and that it based its decision on an extensive record of scientific and technical evidence. President Barack Obama had directed the EPA to reanalyze the issue just days after taking office.
