Equistar Employee Wins $9M For Acid Injury

Law360, New York (July 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Texas jury has awarded an Equistar Chemicals LP employee over $9 million for a 2006 accident in which he splashed acid on his face while pouring it into a tank in a chemical plant, permanently damaging his vision.

In a verdict delivered Wednesday, the jury found that Oxychem Corp., which made the tank, was 70 percent liable for the accident; that Equistar, a LyondellBasell subsidiary, was 20 percent liable; and that the employee himself, Jason Jenkins, was 5 percent liable.
