Quanta Hit With $52M Verdict In Disk Patent Suit

Law360, New York (July 7, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal jury in Texas has awarded $52 million to Japan-based LaserDynamics Inc., finding that Quanta Computer Inc. infringed the company’s patent covering computer technology to recognize a CD or DVD.

A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Monday found that Quanta contributed to or induced infringement of LaserDynamics’ patent and that the infringement was willful. It also rejected Quanta’s argument that the patent was invalid due to lack of enablement.
