Continental Wins Bid To Join Star Alliance

Law360, New York (July 10, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has granted antitrust immunity to Continental Airlines Inc., allowing it to join Star ATI Alliance, which includes United Air Lines Inc. and several foreign airlines.

The department granted preliminary approval to the arrangement in April, but the U.S. Department of Justice announced its opposition to the deal in June, saying it could put major competitive constraints on critical global routes, raise ticket prices and facilitate domestic collusion.
