EU Targets Philips, Others In LCD Cartel Probe

Law360, New York (July 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has accused several makers of liquid crystal display panels, including Royal Philips Electronics NV and LG Display Co. Ltd., with operating a cartel, allegations similar to a case in the U.S. that led to a multimillion-dollar settlement.

The commission said Monday that it had sent a statement of objections to a number of electronics companies, which it declined to name, concerning their alleged participation in a cartel that violated European Union rules on restrictive business practices.
