National Union Found Not Liable In Tobacco Ad Spat

Law360, New York (July 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that National Union Fire Insurance Co. of Pittsburgh, Pa., is not on the hook for approximately $17 million spent by the American Legacy Foundation defending itself in litigation brought over an anti-smoking advertisement.

Judge Sue L. Robinson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware found Friday that none of the National Union policies held by ALF could cover the legal expenses from a fight with Lorillard Tobacco Co.
