DOE Moves Ahead With FutureGen 'Clean Coal' Plant

Law360, New York (July 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy has issued a record of decision that will allow a consortium of coal producers and coal-fueled electric power suppliers to move forward with plans for the FutureGen “clean coal” power plant in Mattoon, Ill.

The DOE's decision — based on consideration of the project's environmental impacts and program objectives — will allow the consortium, known as the FutureGen Alliance, to proceed with site-specific activities.
