Lawyer For Ex-Skadden Atty Now Manhattan Criminal Head

Law360 (January 2, 2019, 7:51 PM EST) -- The U.S. Attorney in Manhattan announced on Wednesday that the new head of the office's criminal division is a veteran ex-prosecutor who recently defended a former Skadden attorney in the Russia investigation.

Former prosecutor Laura Grossfield Birger has been at Cooley LLP for the last 10 years. Among her clients was Alex van der Zwaan, the former Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP attorney who pled guilty to making false statements to investigators in connection with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
