Madoff Aide's Initial Bid To Finish Sentence At Home Denied

Law360 (January 7, 2019, 6:17 PM EST) -- A New York federal judge on Monday denied a request from former Bernie Madoff aide Annette Bongiorno to conclude her six-year sentence for involvement in Madoff's Ponzi scheme at home, saying she needs to ask the Bureau of Prisons first.

U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain said that while Bongiorno does indeed qualify for release to home confinement under the recently passed First Step Act, the statute does not let her apply for early release directly to the court.
