Most LegalForce Claims Against Rival UpCounsel OK'd

By Andrew Strickler (January 11, 2019, 8:38 PM EST) -- A California federal judge has allowed most claims of false advertising and unfair competition brought by an intellectual property firm against online legal company UpCounsel Inc. to continue.

But the order Thursday from U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers did grant UpCounsel a dismissal of false advertising claims brought by LegalForce RAPC related to UpCounsel assertions of being "the world's largest law firm."

Judge Rogers also dismissed an unfair competition claim to the extent LegalForce based it on alleged UpCounsel violations of state attorney conduct rules, including on fee-sharing with nonlawyers.
