Verizon To Let Small Carriers In On Exclusive Deals

Law360, New York (July 17, 2009, 5:44 PM EDT) -- Verizon Communications Inc. has promised to limit its exclusivity agreements with cell phone makers in the wake of increased congressional and regulatory scrutiny on competition in the U.S. wireless market, though the change will not apply to its larger rivals.

Effective immediately, any new exclusive handset agreement Verizon makes with a cell phone manufacturer will open the phones to carriers with fewer than 500,000 customers after no longer than six months, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said Friday.
