Sara Lee's Severance Waiver Triggers New EEOC Suit

Law360 (October 5, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Sara Lee Corp. has once again been sued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, this time for withholding severance pay from laid-off employees who didn’t sign away their rights to file complaints with the agency.

The complaint was filed by an employee who was laid off as part of a restructuring at Sara Lee’s Blue Ash, Ohio facility in the summer of 2005. Laid-off workers who wanted to claim severance pay had to sign waivers promising not to file EEOC claims.
