Va. Tech Sues Verizon Over Fiber Optics Patent

Law360, New York (July 29, 2009, 1:27 PM EDT) -- Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties Inc. has hit Verizon Communications Inc. and Corning Inc. with a patent infringement suit over the fiber optics technology Verizon uses for its FiOS fiber-optic network.

VTIP, a branch of Virginia Tech, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, seeking treble damages from the two companies for their alleged infringement.
