Fed. Circ. OKs Alice Ax Of Konami's Slot Machine Patents

Law360 (March 11, 2019, 5:51 PM EDT) -- Japanese game maker Konami lost its bid to revive four patents on electronic slot machine technology that it accused rival High 5 of infringing, as the Federal Circuit on Monday upheld a lower court’s decision that the patents were invalid under the U.S. Supreme Court’s Alice ruling.

In a nonprecedential one-line order, the appellate panel summarily affirmed a Nevada federal judge's ruling that the four Konami Gaming Inc. patents were invalid under Alice for claiming only an abstract idea, after the Japanese company had sued High 5 Games LLC in 2014 over them.
