Guess Founder Smacked With $370M Libel Verdict

Law360, New York (July 29, 2009, 7:09 PM EDT) -- A Los Angeles jury has slapped Guess Inc. co-founder and California 2010 gubernatorial candidate Georges Marciano with $370 million in damage payments to five former employees who countersued him for defamation after he sued them for embezzling money and stealing artwork.

The jury handed down its verdict in the Los Angeles County, Calif. Superior Court on Friday, according to a statement by lead attorney for the former employees R. Rex Parris.
