$1M Verdict Against Tribe's Insurance Broker Upheld

Law360, New York (July 30, 2009, 4:37 PM EDT) -- A Connecticut appeals court has affirmed a jury verdict awarding the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians close to $1 million in a dispute with its longtime insurance broker, who was found to have doctored the tribe's group life insurance policies and allowed a health policy covering hundreds of its employees to lapse.

The Superior Court of Connecticut denied Jay Lorinsky's appeal of a $916,933 judgment against him, finding that the jury had rightly awarded $678,239 in damages, in an opinion released Wednesday.
