Class Wins Certification In Oxy Suit Over Free Gas

Law360, New York (July 31, 2009, 4:35 PM EDT) -- A federal judge has certified a class of Kansas landowners whose leases contain a clause entitling them to free gas for their homes from oil and gas exploration company Oxy USA Inc., in a suit alleging that Oxy attempted to unlawfully circumvent the clause and cut off the residents' gas.

Judge J. Thomas Marten of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas on Wednesday granted the plaintiffs' motion for class certification, finding that they had met all of the requirements for certification.
