Perry Defends Energy Funding Cuts To Skeptical Senators

Law360 (March 27, 2019, 9:05 PM EDT) -- Senators on Wednesday took Secretary of Energy Rick Perry to task over the Trump administration's proposed 2020 budget that revives previously rejected plans to slash his agency's research and development programs and sell off federally owned transmission systems.

The administration is proposing a $31.7 billion budget for the DOE in the 2020 fiscal year, an 11 percent drop compared to enacted levels for the 2019 fiscal year. The brunt of that reduction would be borne by familiar faces: the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, and several R&D programs that are again targeted for elimination.
