Senate Bills Would Protect Dreamers, TPS Recipients
Law360 (March 26, 2019, 11:48 PM EDT) -- A group of primarily Democratic senators introduced Tuesday a pair of bills that would give recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure programs a pathway to permanent residency.
The Safe Environment from Countries Under Repression and in Emergency Act would provide protections for those who arrived under the TPS and DED programs, whereas the Dream Act of 2019 would protect the so-called Dreamers who immigrated to the U.S. as children. Similar legislation to protect these three groups is pending in the U.S. House of Representatives.
