LA Grocery Store Termination Law Shot Down

Law360, New York (July 31, 2009, 6:28 PM EDT) -- A California state appeals court has affirmed the rejection of a Los Angeles city ordinance that would have required new grocery store owners to employ the store's previous employees for 90 days, ruling the law is preempted by state and federal statutes.

The Court of Appeal for the State of California ruled 2-1 Thursday for the California Grocers Association against the city of Los Angeles, as well as the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, which intervened in the case.
