Law360, New York (August 5, 2009, 2:11 PM EDT) -- The Iranian presidential election was held on June 12. The Iranian government declared the incumbent, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the victor.

Supporters of the leading opposition candidate, Mir-Hossein Mousavi, asserted the election was fraudulent. Hundreds of thousands took to the streets of Tehran, clashing with state security forces and fundamentalist militia. A video showing a young woman protester being shot in the heart and dying on the street went “viral.”
