Senate Confirms Sotomayor For Supreme Court

Law360, New York (August 6, 2009, 5:19 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate voted 68-31 on Thursday to confirm President Barack Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Sonia Sotomayor, as the high court's 111th justice and first Hispanic member.

Nine Republican senators broke ranks to join all 57 Democrats — minus Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, who is battling a brain tumor — and two Independents in supporting Sotomayor's nomination Thursday afternoon.
