Jury Hands Medtronic $57M In Alloy Suit Against AGA

Law360, New York (August 6, 2009, 5:27 PM EDT) -- A federal jury has awarded Medtronic Inc. $57 million after finding that rival medical device manufacturer AGA Medical Corp.’s line of blood vessel occlusion devices infringed its patents.

A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Wednesday held that AGA’s manufacture and sale of its amplatzer occluder and vascular plug products violated two of Medtronic’s patents, handing Medtronic $57 million in past damages and an 11 percent royalty on future U.S. sales of the products through 2018.
