Hawaii State Workers Sue Over Layoffs, Furloughs

Law360, New York (August 7, 2009, 3:09 PM EDT) -- A group of Hawaii state employees has filed a putative class action accusing Gov. Linda Lingle and the state of unfairly firing and imposing unpaid days off on government workers while not enforcing the layoffs and furloughs on outsourced state contractors.

The plaintiffs, who filed their complaint Wednesday in the First Circuit Court for the State of Hawaii, are seeking reinstatement, general compensatory damages and possibly punitive damages, according to their attorney Charles K.Y. Khim.
