E.C. To Rule On Internet Gambling Restrictions

Law360, New York (October 10, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In stark contrast to the U.S. ban on online gaming approved by Congress last month, the European Commission plans to decide Thursday whether to take legal steps against Austria, France and Italy for blocking their gambling markets to foreign companies.

The Commission is reviewing claims by online betting companies that the E.U. Member States have set up regulations that shield their domestic gambling companies and prevent foreign companies from entering the market.
