Alice Finally 'Swallowed' Patent Law, Full Fed. Circ. Told

Law360 (May 14, 2019, 5:11 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit allowed the U.S. Supreme Court's Alice v. CLS Bank decision to "swallow all of patent law" when it declared four electric vehicle charging station technology patents were abstract ideas not eligible for protection, despite a specific warning in the justices' decision not to do so, ChargePoint Inc. said in a rehearing bid. 

The three-judge panel ignored the fact that ChargePoint's patents cover a machine with hardware improvements, which isn't the type of invention Alice targeted, the company said Monday.
