Platinum Reinsurer Strikes Back At Insurer 'Smear Campaign'
Law360 (May 17, 2019, 5:18 PM EDT) -- A set of reinsurance and asset management companies that has been accused of operating as an alter ego of now-defunct Platinum Partners is fighting to escape racketeering claims from the hedge fund's insurers.
What have often been referred to as the "Beechwood entities" — Beechwood Re Ltd. and a variety of its affiliates and executives — told a New York federal judge Thursday that Platinum's insurers are trying to diffuse their own liability in the massive fraud perpetrated by the hedge fund's insiders with a "smear campaign" of claims and accusations that Beechwood was in on the scam.
