400 Groups Back Bill Protecting Dreamers And TPS Holders
By Nicole Narea (May 21, 2019, 3:56 PM EDT) -- Over 400 advocacy groups urged Congress to advance a bill on Tuesday to offer a path to citizenship for so-called Dreamers and immigrants who benefit from Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure.
The "Dream and Promise Act," introduced in March by Rep. Lucille Royal-Allard, D-Calif., would close removal proceedings brought against such immigrants and provide them with a means to apply for legal permanent residency and eventual citizenship. The House Judiciary Committee will consider the bill Wednesday in committee markup.
