USDA Won't Challenge Reversal Of Forest Rules

Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 3:42 PM EDT) -- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has said that the government will not appeal a ruling overturning regulations promulgated by the Bush administration that would have gutted the requirement that wildlife habitats be maintained in national forests, but will develop new rules for national forests instead.

Vilsack said Friday that the government wouldn't appeal a decision by Judge Claudia Wilken of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granting summary judgment to nearly 20 environmental groups that sued the governments over the rule, according to...
