Australia Hits Emirates With Air Cargo Cartel Suit

Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 1:43 PM EDT) -- Emirates has become the latest airline to face a lawsuit by Australia's competition regulator as part of an ongoing investigation into cartel activity in the international air cargo industry.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced Tuesday it had instituted proceedings against Emirates in the Federal Court in Sydney, alleging the Middle Eastern airline entered into arrangements with other international carriers to fix fuel surcharges and other rates on air cargo.
