Guess Founder Seeks To Stay $370M Libel Judgment

Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 3:57 PM EDT) -- Guess Inc. co-founder and California 2010 gubernatorial candidate Georges Marciano has asked California’s highest court to stay a $370 million libel judgment awarded to five former employees who countersued him for defamation after he claimed they embezzled money and stole artwork.

Marciano's appeal reached the California Supreme Court on Friday. He is seeking to reverse a California Appellate Court, Second Division, ruling on Thursday that turned down his request to stay the Los Angeles County Superior Court's judgment.
