NASD, NYSE Continue Quest For Harmonization

Law360, New York (October 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Major U.S. stock markets are working toward harmonizing their regulatory arms, but have not yet addressed the question of whether the two main regulating bodies should be combined into a single entity.

Staffs of both organizations are working on a project to eliminate differences in the rules of the National Association of Securities Dealers and the New York Stock Exchange, NASD CEO Mary Schapiro at an industry conference.

The group hopes to propose the first round of recommendations to the NASD board by December, Schapiro said....
