Entergy Wins $200M In Federal Bailout

Law360, New York (October 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a bid to sidestep potentially skyrocketing hikes for power customers, Louisiana regulators on Thursday gave the green light for bankrupt utility Entergy New Orleans Inc. to receive $200 million in federal aid meant to offset costs caused by Hurricane Katrina.

The award represents about a third of the federal funding Entergy had requested in order to help the company emerge from bankruptcy and diminish the possibility of stiff increases in electricity and natural gas bills for New Orleans residents and businesses.
