CPSC Says Chinese Drywall Poses No Radiation Risk

Law360, New York (August 24, 2009, 5:08 PM EDT) -- Amid talk of possible radiation in the allegedly tainted Chinese-made drywall, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has said neither imported nor domestic drywall tested by experts posed a radiological concern.

As a result of “speculation” by consultants, homeowners and the media that imported drywall may contain phosphogypsum, the CPSC and the Florida Department of Health Radiation Laboratory initiated a blind study of 21 samples of both imported and domestic drywall, the CPSC said in a report released Friday.
