Judge Says PG&E Ch. 11 Exclusivity Is Best For Fire Victims

Law360 (August 16, 2019, 10:41 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Friday allowed Pacific Gas and Electric Co. to keep its right to exclusively pitch a Chapter 11 plan through September, saying it was "the best of the choices presented" when it comes to helping victims of recent, devastating wildfires blamed on the power company.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Dennis Montali said he had taken into account the arguments of PG&E's creditors as well as those made by state authorities, including the governor's office, in favor of ending the utility's right to unilaterally fashion a Chapter 11 proposal.
