Trump Admin Floats Plan To Privatize Federal Mortgage Giants

By Mike LaSusa (September 5, 2019, 10:42 PM EDT) -- The Trump administration on Thursday put forward plans to wean Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac off government control as part of a broader overhaul of the housing finance system, according to documents published by the departments of Housing and Urban Development and the Treasury.

Officials said the government-sponsored entities pose a risk to public coffers because they're still under government conservatorship more than a decade after the feds scooped them up during the height of the financial crisis.
