9th Circ. Won't Toss Paris Hilton's Hallmark Suit

Law360, New York (September 1, 2009, 2:17 PM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has ruled that Hallmark Cards is not entitled to claim that a greeting card it sold bearing celebrity heiress Paris Hilton’s image and catchphrase “That’s hot” is a transformative work as a matter of law and has denied its bid to toss the suit based on a California law aimed at protecting free speech.
